Kinetic Control

Psychokinesis
Level: Psion 3, Psychic warrior 2, Energy Mantle 3
Duration: One round per level
Action: standard action
Save: See below

Absorb the next attack and redirect the damage

When casting this spell, the manifester selects a subset of the following damage types: physical, fire, lightning, ice, acid, force, sonic. The first time the manifester would normally receive damage of one of the selected types, that amount is reduced by up to 10 points per powerpoint spent. This reduction takes place before any other resistance or damage reduction the manifester might have. For the purpose of this power, damage that contains multiple components of different types, counts as having the type of the largest component. Keep the amount of absorbed damage in mind as well as the type of damage. At any point, while kinetic control is active, you may release this energy as a free action, as part of a psi power or attack. The psi power/attack, must have a damage component, that matches the damage type of the absorbed damage. For instance lightning damage could be delivered with a lightning psi power, or a shocking burst greatsword, but not with a fire psi power. If the power allows a saving throw, a successful save halves this extra damage. If the power does not allow a saving throw or an attack is used, a successful fortitude save halves the extra damage. If kinetic control ends, before the manifester delivered the absorbed damage, the manifester takes the absorbed damage instead, without save.

Example:

Master Zane activates kinetic control spending 5 power points and selecting physical and fire damage. Zane gets hit by a thunder bird that deals 15 physical and 20 lightning damage. Lightning is the largest component but not selected by Zane, so nothing happens. Next round Zane is hit by a magma eruption, which deals 43 fire damage and 31 physical damage. Zane absorbs 50 points of damage and 24 points of damage are left. Because Zane has 13 damage reduction, he only takes 11 points of damage. Next round an illithid successfully dispels kinetic control. Zane takes 50 points of fire damage, which is reduced to 45 since Zane has 5 points of fire resistance.
